Koinobori carp ENGIMONO lucky charm

Koinobori is a carp-shaped windsock traditionally used in Japan to celebrate Children's Day, which takes place every May 5. If you're in Japan at the end of April, you'll be able to see these beautiful scaly streamers in the Japanese landscape!

In traditional Japanese art, the carp - or koi in Japanese - represents strength and determination. Koionobori are a symbol of good luck and longevity, and represent a family's wishes for their children to have a prosperous future, grow up healthy and ward off the evil eye.

It is also said that names “koinobori” (carp) and “koi” (love) are combined to express the wish for a good marriage. Here, the amulet contains a fragment of gold leaf to ward off evil. Many Japanese carry this type of amulet in their wallet or purse as an invitation to good fortune.
